Reviewers describe the optics as close to flawless: sharpness and contrast are excellent across the zoom range at f/2.8, holding up well into the corners, and lateral colour fringing is negligible. Vignetting is modest for a fast ultra-wide, and the extra coating does a good job against ghosting and flare. Autofocus is quick, accurate and close to silent, and focus breathing is minimal.

The weak points are barrel distortion at 14-16mm that needs in-camera or profile correction, a slight loss of contrast in the centre at 24mm f/2.8, and the lack of a front filter thread, which pushes users to rear gels and rules out polarisers. One test found the zoom ring stiff and the variable-gearing focus ring awkward for video. Both reviews still rate it a top choice of ultra-wide zoom, and on L-Mount there is no direct equivalent at this focal range and aperture.
