Optical character
The 35mm F2 is the everyday standard of Sigma's I series: a 325g, all-metal prime that puts build quality and handling ahead of outright speed. One SLD and three aspherical elements keep it sharp and low in colour fringing from f/2.
It has a knurled metal focus ring and a clicked aperture ring with an A position, internal focusing driven by a quiet stepping motor, and a 27cm close focus. A metal hood and magnetic metal cap come in the box. Sigma renamed it from "DG DN" to "DG" in late 2025; the optics are unchanged.
Reviewer consensus
Reviewers find it sharp in the centre wide open and very good across the frame by f/2.8. Lateral colour fringing is low, and the 9-blade aperture gives smooth bokeh for a compact f/2 lens. Like its I-series siblings it shows visible barrel distortion and vignetting if in-camera profiles are switched off.
The metal construction and tactile rings are the main reason to choose it over cheaper plastic f/1.8 rivals. The trade-offs are the f/2 aperture, the absence of a de-click option for video, and a lack of a focus distance scale.
Owner sentiment
Owners describe it as a small, well-made lens that feels at home on A7C and A7-series bodies, and many use it as their main walk-around lens. AF is described as quick and quiet with reliable eye tracking.
Recurring complaints are the audible aperture clicks during video, the magnetic cap coming off in bags, and a price that is higher than Sony's and Samyang's plastic 35mm f/1.8 lenses.
