Optical character
Laowa's first autofocus lens is a 130° rectilinear ultra-wide with near-zero distortion that still takes 77mm screw-in filters. Few lenses this wide manage that, since most use a bulbous front element.
On Sony E the aperture is set from the camera and AF is focus-by-wire. The five-blade aperture produces strong 10-point sunstars, and 0.12m close focus allows dramatic near-far compositions.
Reviewer consensus
Reviewers praise how straight lines stay straight, the compact size for a 10mm, and good central sharpness from f/2.8. The sunstars draw particular attention.
Weaknesses are corner softness until about f/8, strong vignetting, and AF that is adequate but not fast. That matters little at 10mm, where depth of field is huge. Sealing is limited to a mount gasket.
Owner sentiment
Architecture, interiors and landscape owners value being able to use screw-in filters at 10mm and the lack of distortion. Many use it as a light, extreme-wide alternative to the 12-24mm zooms.
Some users miss the aperture ring of the manual-focus versions and report flare with the sun just outside the frame.
