Optical character
Sigma's 14mm F1.8 was the first 14mm lens with an f/1.8 aperture when it launched for DSLRs, and in 2019 it became one of the Art primes offered in a native L-Mount version. The front element is a large 80mm precision-moulded glass asphere, and three FLD and four SLD elements are there to control the lateral colour that ultra-wides are prone to. Sigma has since listed it as discontinued in all mounts.
The L-Mount version is the DSLR design (Sigma still lists its camera type as DSLR) fitted with a native mount, which makes it 150mm long and 1,185g. Focus is driven by a large HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor). The fixed petal hood and bulbous front element rule out screw-in filters, there is no aperture ring, and weather protection is limited to a rubber gasket at the mount plus a water- and oil-repellent front coating.
