Optical character
The 7Artisans 14mm F2.8 is a rectilinear 116-degree ultra-wide for full-frame mirrorless cameras, sold in L-Mount for Lumix S, Leica SL and Sigma bodies. Its 13 elements in 9 groups include two aspherical, three ED and five high-refractive-index elements, aimed at keeping distortion close to zero for architecture, interiors and landscapes.
It is fully manual with no electronic contacts. The metal barrel has a 10-blade diaphragm, a switch that toggles the aperture ring between clicked and de-clicked, and a detachable hood with a 77mm thread, so standard screw-in filters can be used despite the bulbous front element. Minimum focus is a long 0.43m.
Reviewer consensus
Reviewers agree that distortion is practically zero, chromatic aberration is low and colours are good (one also notes negligible focus breathing), and they like the all-metal build, the long focus throw and the click/de-click switch. The 77mm filter option on the hood is seen as a real advantage, though thin filters can still add slight vignetting.
Opinions on sharpness vary. A test on a 61MP body found the centre good wide open and excellent by f/5.6, but corners weak at f/2.8 and never better than good, with poor flare resistance and many halos. A hands-on review on a 24MP Nikon body was more positive about overall sharpness but also found it prone to flare with the sun in frame. The 61MP test also found vignetting strong wide open (the other review only corrected very slight vignetting) and called the 0.43m minimum focus very long for an ultra-wide.
Owner sentiment
The one L-Mount owner review found calls it an excellent lens for the price, with images that are practically free of distortion. The owner sees it as an easy choice for anyone who needs an ultra-wide angle and does not mind focusing manually, while acknowledging it is not a lens for every photographer.
