Reviewers report very good sharpness from f/1.8 that improves as you stop down. Corners are softer wide open, and the sharpest results across the frame come between f/5.6 and f/11. Autofocus is fast and silent in most situations but slows and can hunt near minimum focus. Focus breathing is barely visible, which makes it a strong video lens. Colour fringing is well controlled. Uncorrected barrel distortion is strong, but camera correction removes it.

Vignetting is visible at f/1.8 and gone by about f/2.8. Bokeh is pleasant, though highlight edges can look a little harsh and highlights turn oval toward the corners. Flare is well controlled, though some can appear with the sun in the frame. Testers like the solid, weather-sealed build and good value. The main criticisms are the bare-bones controls, with no aperture ring or custom button, and no focus limiter.
