Leica APO-Summicron-SL 35 f/2 ASPH.

Lab tests find excellent centre sharpness at f/2, ahead of other 35mm f/2 lenses tested wide open, with edges good but falling off faster than the centre. Lateral colour is very low, longitudinal fringing negligible, coma well corrected, and distortion ranges from negligible in one test to moderate in another. Autofocus is near-silent and accurate, and focus breathing is low at about 4%.

The weak spot is shooting into bright light: wide open there are few reflections, but stopped down flare becomes strong with the sun near the corners, and one bright artifact persists. Raw vignetting of about 1.8 EV at f/2 drops quickly by f/2.8, and highlights can show onion rings. Testers conclude it is excellent but faces cheaper, faster L-Mount alternatives at a fraction of the price.
