Optical character
The first true wide angle in Leica's APO-Summicron-SL line, sharing the series' common 102 x 73mm barrel and 67mm filter size. Apochromatic correction is unusual at 28mm: nine of the 13 elements use anomalous partial dispersion glass, three are aspherical on both sides, and a floating element holds performance down to the 24cm close focus.
Autofocus uses Leica's DSD dual stepping motors, which Leica says cover the full range in about 250ms, and the manual focus ring uses a magnetic sensor for fine control. The housing is metal and sealed against dust and water spray, with AquaDura coating on the outer glass. It is heavy for a 28mm f/2 at 700g, and it launched at $5,195.
