Leica Vario-Elmar-SL 100-400 f/5-6.3

Leica's longest SL lens, and the one that took the system into wildlife and sports range. The 100-400mm f/5-6.3 weighs 1,530g, about 300g less than the Vario-Elmarit-SL 90-280mm, and with the matched Extender L 1.4x it reaches 560mm. Inside are 22 elements in 16 groups with several special low-dispersion glasses, and a single lightweight focusing element.

Optical stabilisation is rated at 4 stops (CIPA). The magnesium and aluminium barrel is sealed against dust and splashes, with AquaDura coating on the outer glass, 82mm filters and a telescoping zoom. The rotating tripod collar clicks every 90 degrees and its detachable foot is ARCA-SWISS compatible, so it drops straight into a clamp. Close focus is 1.1m at 100mm and 1.59m at 400mm, for up to 1:4.1.
