Optical character
The AF 24mm F1.8 is a low-cost full-frame wide prime for landscapes, travel, street photography and vlogging. Its 14-element, 11-group design includes three ED, two aspherical and two high-refractive elements, with an STM stepping motor that supports eye and face detection, and an 11-blade diaphragm. Focus breathing is essentially absent, which suits video.
The metal barrel measures 72 x 92mm, weighs about 424g and takes 62mm filters. It has a stepless, clickless aperture ring with an A position, an AF/MF switch, a customisable function button and a USB-C port on the mount for firmware updates. Focus goes down to 0.32m. The centre is sharp with high contrast from f/1.8, but the corners need stopping down and distortion has a wavy pattern.

Owner sentiment
Owner feedback is thin. One owner who took the Sony version through Egyptian temples found sharpness good from f/2.8 and outstanding between f/4 and f/8. They also had to enter the focal length for in-body stabilisation by hand, and autofocus was very slow on older Sony A7 and A7 II bodies.
