Laowa 35mm f/2.8 Zero-D Tilt-Shift 0.5X Macro (Canon RF)

Reviewers rate the optics as excellent: image quality shows no obvious drop at the extremes of the tilt and shift movements, and the results are described as first rate once the lens is set up carefully. The only optical weak spot noted is some flare when shooting wide open into bright light with lots of tilt. Build is described as precision engineering, focus is smooth and precise with a fairly short throw, and the price is considered very competitive for a tilt-shift with 0.5x close focus.

Handling is the catch. It is big and heavy and really needs a tripod, and the lens sits close to the grip, so the body's lens release and the rotation button are awkward to reach. With the lens rotated for vertical shift, its weight overpowers the shift knob's click stops. At strong tilt settings infinity focus is lost. There are no electronics, so there is no EXIF or automatic focus magnification, and the learning curve for tilt is steep.
