Early reviews report very good to excellent sharpness across the frame at f/6.3, enough to crop heavily. Autofocus is fast, silent and accurate. Bokeh is attractive in front of and behind the subject. Stabilisation allows sharp hand-held shots of static subjects at surprisingly slow shutter speeds, and uncorrected raw files show some pincushion distortion that profiles remove.

The reservations are the slow aperture in poor light, especially with converters, a tripod foot without an Arca-Swiss plate, and a price well above 600mm-capable zooms like the 200-600 G. Testers agree it is clearly sharper and far easier to carry than those zooms, though it cannot isolate a subject as well as the 600mm f/4.

It started shipping in mid-October 2026, so owner feedback is still early. Bird photographers coming from the 200-600 make up most early buyers, and they mention how easy it is to hand-hold, the sharpness and the close focus.

The early complaints are about f/6.3 at dawn and dusk, focus occasionally locking onto branches in front of small birds (fixed with the focus limiter or manual focus), the tripod foot design, and the conspicuous white finish.
