Reviewers describe it as one of the best-value fast 24mm lenses for Sony E. It is sharp in the centre wide open with corners that improve quickly on stopping down, and coma is well controlled for night-sky work. Nano Porous Coating helps keep flare and ghosting low.

AF from the stepping motor is quick and quiet for stills and video, though not as fast as Sony's linear-motor GM on moving subjects. Wide-open vignetting is noticeable before correction, and Sony's 24mm f/1.4 GM is a little smaller and lighter.

Owners use it for weddings, travel and Milky Way shots and often compare it favourably with the Sony GM at a lower price. The tactile switches, declickable aperture and solid build are well liked.

The complaints are minor: it is a little larger than the GM, the hood is deep, and some users see corner vignetting and occasional AF hunting in very dim light.
