Optical character
Laowa's 24mm tilt-shift is unusually fast: an f/2 maximum aperture with ±10° tilt and ±12mm shift, where most tilt-shift lenses stop at f/3.5 or f/4. The 67mm image circle keeps the full ±12mm of shift available even on GFX and XCD medium format.
The optics follow Laowa's Zero-D approach, with near-zero distortion from five ED, two aspherical and four high-index elements. Like the 17mm sibling, it has an integrated tripod support so the nodal point stays fixed when stitching, 14 aperture blades, a 77mm filter thread and 0.25m close focus. The extra speed suits night architecture, astro and shallow miniature-effect tilts.
Reviewer consensus
No full independent reviews were available at the time of writing, because the lens had launched only in China. Laowa's MTF charts show high contrast in the centre at f/2 with a fall-off past about 12mm image height, and near-flat, very high curves at f/8. That suggests a lens meant to be stopped down for architecture while still usable wide open.
If it behaves like the 17mm f/4 tilt-shift from the same series, expect excellent distortion control and a capable shift mechanism, but also weight and handling quirks. Flare behaviour and shifted-corner performance remain to be confirmed by testing.
Owner sentiment
There is no owner feedback outside China yet. Early interest centres on the f/2 aperture, which no other 24mm tilt-shift for mirrorless offers. People also like that the shift range stays the same on medium format.
The likely concerns are the 860g weight, the lack of electronic contacts, and whether and at what price it reaches global markets.
