Optical character

The Mark II is a full redesign of 7Artisans' full-frame fisheye. Coverage grows to a 185-degree diagonal, the optics gain an aspherical element and two ED elements, and the diaphragm moves to 10 blades for 10-point sunstars. Close focus drops to 0.15m, almost touching the front element.

It is larger and a little heavier than the original (602g, 75 x 95mm), with a new barrel, a fixed petal hood and markings designed to be read in the dark. It won the lens category at the TIPA World Awards 2025, and it remains one of the cheapest ways to get a full-frame fisheye on Nikon Z.

Reviewer consensus

Coverage of the Mark II is mostly launch reporting rather than lab testing. What has been published points to a sharper centre and better edge rendering than the Mark I, helped by the new aspherical and ED elements, with tidy 10-point sunstars when stopped down.

The trade-offs are the same as before: manual focus and aperture only, no electronic contacts, no front filters, and corner softness and vignetting at f/2.8 that clear up by f/5.6 to f/8. It costs slightly more than the Mark I and is bigger, so owners of the original have less reason to upgrade than new buyers.

Owner sentiment

Early owners praise the solid metal build, smooth focus ring, very close focus and the extra-wide 185-degree view for skate, street and creative close-ups. The stepless aperture ring and glow-in-the-dark markings are popular for night and video work.

Complaints include the weight for a 10mm lens, the fixed hood that rules out filters, the lack of EXIF data and occasional flare from bright light just outside the frame.
