Viltrox AF 14mm F4.0 Air L (L-Mount)

Testers of this optical design found it sharp from f/4, with an excellent centre, a very good outer field and low field curvature, so stopping down mainly adds depth of field. Lateral colour fringing is low to absent, coma is well controlled, and flare resistance was a strength in backlit scenes.

The weak points are heavy vignetting of about 3 EV that hardly improves when stopped down, a wavy distortion pattern that correction profiles don't fully remove, and sunstars that only become well defined around f/11. Build is plain plastic on a metal mount with no weather sealing, but at its price it was judged an easy recommendation for anyone who doesn't need a fast aperture.

Owner feedback on this design is still thin. The clearest report concerns filters: the 58mm thread works, but thick filters add visible corner darkening on top of the lens's already strong vignetting, so slim filters or a step-up ring with slim filters are the safer choice.

Another owner asked whether the Viltrox firmware app recognises the lens, without a reply.
