Reviewers found it sharp across the frame from f/2 at distance, peaking around f/4 to f/5.6, with slight softness at the closest focus distance wide open. Flare resistance is good and coma is mostly gone by f/2.8. The weak points are strong vignetting and heavy uncorrected barrel distortion, so it depends on in-camera or software profiles. Longitudinal colour fringing is visible wide open.

Autofocus is fast and quiet for stills and video, with some focus breathing. The metal build and hood impress, but the aperture ring cannot be de-clicked, there is no function button, and sealing is limited to the mount. One test rated it highly recommended for its balance of size, price and performance. The other found it hard to recommend over cheaper f/1.8 rivals or a faster 24mm f/1.4.

Owners who commented on a long-form review liked its clean rendering with a bit of character, its handling and the magnetic cap, and one praised its near-minimum-focus shots at f/2.
