Testers found the centre sharp at f/2.8 throughout the range, with corners a little softer wide open that improve on stopping down and look good across the frame by f/5.6. Colour fringing is well controlled. Uncorrected files show barrel distortion at 16mm, pincushion at 28mm and obvious vignetting wide open, all of which the lens profile removes at the cost of a small crop. Some focus breathing is visible at 16mm.

Autofocus is fast, quiet and accurate for stills and video, with reliable eye tracking. Reviewers like the light weight, the filter thread and the internal zoom, and see it as a much cheaper and smaller option than 16-35mm f/2.8 zooms. The drawbacks they list are the short 28mm long end, a polycarbonate barrel, no stabilisation and weather sealing only at the mount.
