The third constant-f/2.8 zoom in Leica's SL line, after the 14-24mm and 24-70mm, covers the classic 70-200mm range for sport, events, wildlife and portraits. Twenty elements in fifteen groups include three with aspherical surfaces and seven in low-dispersion glass with high anomalous partial dispersion, and optical image stabilisation is built in. Internal focusing and zooming keep the length fixed at 207mm.
The magnesium and aluminium barrel is dust and splash protected, the outer elements carry Leica's Aqua-Dura coating, and a tripod clamp with a detachable foot comes with the lens. It weighs about 1540g without the hood and takes 82mm filters. Leica's Extender L 1.4x and 2.0x take it to 280mm and 400mm. Its specifications match Sigma's 70-200mm F2.8 DG DN OS Sports, which suggests a shared optical design.
