Optical character
The 2026 Summilux-SL 50 f/1.4 ASPH. is a new optical design that keeps the name of the 2016 original but is far smaller: 584g and 75.5mm long. Leica announced it with the SL3-P in June 2026 and bills it as the most compact 50mm f/1.4 autofocus lens; it is even smaller than the 2023 Summicron-SL 50 f/2, and it takes 67mm filters.
The design has 11 elements in 6 groups with two aspherical surfaces made by Leica's in-house PGM process, and an 11-blade electronically controlled aperture for smooth out-of-focus transitions. A voice-coil motor drives focus quickly and almost silently; Leica notes the focus group is held electromagnetically, so it can move audibly when the lens is unpowered. Close focus is 0.5m (1:7.6), the aperture stops down to f/16, and the black-anodized aluminium housing is IP54 dust and splash rated with Aqua-Dura coated outer elements.
