The APO-Summicron-SL 50 f/2 ASPH. is the reference standard lens of Leica's SL system, released in August 2019 as part of the APO-Summicron-SL family that shares one form factor. Leica's claim is apochromatic correction at full aperture: the 12-element, 10-group design uses three aspherical elements and several anomalous partial dispersion elements so that f/2 is a working aperture rather than one to stop down from.
It focuses to 0.35m (1:5) with stepping motors in Leica's Dual Syncro Drive, which Leica says can travel the full focus range in about 250 milliseconds. The metal barrel is sealed against dust and spray and the outer elements have Aqua-Dura coating. At 740g and 102mm it is heavy for a 50mm f/2, though much lighter than the 1,065g Summilux-SL 50.
