Optical character
The first native autofocus macro lens in Leica's SL range, announced alongside the SL3-P in June 2026. It reaches true 1:1 reproduction at 0.29m and doubles as a 100mm portrait and short-telephoto lens. Leica names it after the APO-Macro-Elmarit-R 100 f/2.8 of 1987, and like that lens it is apochromatically corrected to suppress colour fringing from infinity down to life size.
The design uses 17 elements in 12 groups. A focus limiter restricts autofocus to the close range or the far range when needed. The aluminium barrel is IP54 dust and splash protected, with AquaDura on the outer glass and E67 filters, and it weighs 801g without the hood. It works with Leica's Extender L 1.4x and 2.0x. Leica publishes an exposure-compensation table because the effective aperture drops to about f/5.75 at 1:1.
