Optical character
The Portrait Heliar 75mm F1.8 brings Voigtländer's spherical aberration control ring to Canon RF. Turning it toward over-correction keeps the focus point sharp but makes background blur harder-edged and bubble-like; turning it toward under-correction softens the subject, adds flare to highlights and smooths the background.
The optics are a simple six-element, three-group Heliar layout, and Cosina's diagram marks no special elements. The RF version has a knurled focus ring, is 86mm long and 570g, focuses to 0.7m and stops down to f/11. Changing the SA setting shifts focus and can move exposure by up to a third of a stop, and the under side darkens the corners. Electronic contacts pass EXIF and support Canon's focus guide (not on the EOS RP), peaking, magnification and 3-axis IBIS, though Cosina notes the focus aids may not work with the ring at an extreme setting.
