Optical character
Leica's stabilised standard zoom for the SL system, announced in 2015. The 24-90mm range runs from true wide angle to a short portrait telephoto, with f/2.8 at 24mm narrowing to f/4 at 90mm, and optical stabilisation rated at 3.5 stops at 90mm. The design uses 18 elements, four of them aspherical and eleven of anomalous partial dispersion glass.
A single light element focuses, driven by a stepping motor with linear positioning, and the lens does not change length while focusing. It focuses to 0.3m at 24mm and reaches 1:3.8 at 90mm. The price of that range and stabilisation is size: 1,140g and 138mm long with 82mm filters, in a sealed metal barrel with AquaDura-coated outer glass and a rectangular hood.
Reviewer consensus
We summarise professional reviews only after reading at least two independent ones. Not enough have been published or verified for this lens yet.
Owner sentiment
Only one owner review was found. The owner finds it easy to use, likes having the everyday 24-90mm range in one lens, says the stabilisation works well, and praises how solid it feels on the SL, along with its crisp resolution and subdued colour.
The complaint is weight: it is heavier than the owner expected. They accept this, but add that the lens is not for everyone.
