Optical character
Leica calls it the world's first 21mm APO lens for full frame. It joins the APO-Summicron-SL 28, 35, 50, 75 and 90 with the same compact barrel and E67 filter size, giving the SL range an f/2 super-wide prime for landscape, interiors, architecture, reportage and studio work.
The 14 elements in 11 groups include three with aspherical surfaces, and most are made of special glass with anomalous partial dispersion for its apochromatic correction. It focuses down to 0.21m (1:5.3) for strong foreground compositions, uses Leica's Dual Synchro Drive autofocus, and has a dust- and splash-protected metal barrel with AquaDura coating. It weighs 789g without its screw-on hood.
