The AF 85mm F1.8 is 7Artisans' budget portrait prime, released for L-Mount in May 2025 after the Sony E and Nikon Z versions. It uses a 10-element, 7-group design with two ED and two high-refractive elements, internal focusing, an STM stepping motor and an 11-blade aperture. Centre sharpness is very high from f/1.8, and background blur is soft with well-rounded highlight discs.
The L-Mount version measures 72 x 96mm and weighs about 443g, close to the company's AF 50mm F1.8. Handling is generous for the price: a stepless aperture ring with an A position, an AF/MF switch, a customisable Fn button and a USB-C port in the mount for firmware updates. There is no weather sealing and no lock for the aperture ring.
