The first lens in Viltrox's Pro line is an f/1.4 portrait prime that sells for about a third of Sony's 85mm GM II. Fifteen elements in eleven groups include an ultra-precision aspherical element, three ED and nine high-refractive elements, and the centre is very sharp at f/1.4.
The all-metal, weather-sealed barrel carries a de-clickable aperture ring, an AF/MF switch and a custom Fn button. Two HyperVCM voice-coil motors drive focus, and the 11-blade aperture keeps highlights round. It weighs 800g and takes 77mm filters.
Reviewer consensus
Reviewers rated it very sharp across most apertures, peaking around f/4, with low lateral CA and only about 0.5% pincushion distortion. Bokeh is smooth in the centre with mild outlining and subdued cat's-eye shapes in the corners, and the VCM autofocus is quick, though slightly behind Sony's XD linear motors.
The criticisms are its 800g weight, strong vignetting at f/1.4, some bokeh fringing wide open and a noticeable focus shift when stopping down. There is no in-camera correction profile, and early firmware had an AF bug that a later update fixed.
