Optical character

The Z-mount Nokton 28mm F1.5 is a fast, compact wide that is 57mm long and weighs 360g. Its 10-element design uses two double-sided aspherical elements and two anomalous partial-dispersion elements, and it focuses down to 0.28m.

A 12-blade aperture keeps out-of-focus highlights round. It has an all-metal helicoid, a screw-in hood and electronic contacts for EXIF, 3-axis in-body stabilisation and Nikon's focus aids (focus-frame colour change, peaking and magnification). The Z body is wider than the E-mount version and takes 52mm filters, and the aperture ring is clicked only.

Reviewer consensus

Early reviews describe a lens tuned for rendering rather than test-chart perfection. It is sharp at distance, softer at close and portrait ranges when wide open, and the frame edges improve noticeably by f/4 to f/5.6. Colour and contrast are good, and background blur is soft with well-formed bokeh balls.

Vignetting and chromatic aberration are clearly visible wide open, while distortion is very low and flare resistance is good. Most published testing so far covers the optically identical E-mount version.

Owner sentiment

Owners like the size, finish and focus feel, and use it as a small low-light street and travel lens, often on the Zf where its looks match the body. Many describe the f/1.5 rendering as pleasantly classic without being soft.

Some owners report weak edges when stopped down a little, and others say their copies perform well at all apertures, which points to sample variation or field curvature. Vignetting wide open, the lack of a de-click option and manual focus only are the other common caveats.
